Last night, the wife and I voyaged out to Standard Tap along with a few friends. I absolutely love going to this place. The area seems to be on the upswing and it was the grand opening of the Piazza in Northern Liberties. Before heading in to Standard Tap, we went over to check out how Swift Half was coming along. I believe it opens on Tuesday and I can't wait to try it out, looks like a decent beer list and some good food.
The one thing I love about Standard Tap is that no matter what, there will always be 2 cask beers on. When we arrived SlyFox Placebo and Troegs Hopback Amber Ale were on cask. The Placebo was very good. I love a nice high ABV beer, but there's nothing like a 3 to 5 percent session beer, especially cask-conditioned(Uncle Teddy's Bitter, I'm looking your way.). Hopback just might be my favorite when it's on cask. I had the last one before it was kicked and SlyFox Standard Ale was added. It was my first time having one and I was pleasantly surprised. SlyFox is slowly rising on my favorite local brewery list. Standard Tap always delivers in the form of Philadelphia-centric beers, and has some pretty killer food to boot.
